On Saturday, the Indianapolis Colts announced that tight end Will Mallory has been activated off injured reserve, after previously having had his 21-day window opened for team practice.
Mallory, who missed the team’s last two preseason games because of a thumb injury, had spent the entire 2026 season to-date on injured reserve. He was in the process of wrapping up his second week of his allotted three week window before the Colts were going to either activate him off IR or he’d remain on IR for the entire season.
Obviously, all signs were that the Colts would activate him at some point during the three week window. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have opened it to begin with.
The former Indianapolis 2023 5th round pick has shown flashes as a receiver at tight end throughout his early career with the Colts, but unfortunately, has played in a crowded tight end room as of late with Tyler Warren, Mo Alie-Cox, and Drew Ogletree all ahead of him on the team’s positional depth chart.
That being said, Warren, the clear primary receiving tight end of the group, is currently “questionable” with a groin injury, having been a limited participant during Friday’s team practice. If Warren were to miss time, Mallory could play a role helping to replace him receiving-wise on Sunday at home against the Tennessee Titans.
Mallory led all Colts receivers during the team’s preseason opener versus the New England Patriots on the road, catching a team-high 6 receptions for 80 total receiving yards.
