No. 20 Florida State baseball (10-2) finishes off its season-long nine-game homestand and non-conference weekend slate with a three-game set against Northern Kentucky (7-4).
After a rocky weekend against The Citadel, the Seminoles are starting to find a little bit of rhythm. Florida State picked up a walk-off win over Jacksonville on Tuesday before annihilating Mercer, 22-5, in a run-rule win on Wednesday. This week is FSU’s only multi mid-week slate of the season. Link Jarrett’s team are winners
of six in a row heading into the weekend and are expected to get some valuable pieces back. The head coach told the local Tallahassee media on Wednesday that they believe OF Brayden Dowd and RHP Brodie Purcell should return from injury this weekend.
However, even with the winning streak, this weekend will be massive for Florida State’s staff to figure out who their best nine players are and where they fit in the lineup. It has been a revolving door on the field and in the batting order for FSU to begin the year, as Jarrett does not yet know who he can trust at what spot, aside from Myles Bailey. With an incredibly difficult schedule next week, a road game against Florida before a weekend away from home versus Wake Forest, the time for trial-and-error is almost over, and the head coach needs answers by the end of the weekend.
Switching gears to the Norse, NKU comes into this weekend winners of five in a row, including a sweep of Eastern Illinois last weekend. Northern Kentucky was picked to finish third in the Horizon League this season and made its first and only regional appearance in 2024.
