Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. is set to return to practice Wednesday, according to Mark Kaboly of the Pat McAfee Show, giving the Pittsburgh Steelers an encouraging development as they begin preparations for Week 3.
Pittman has been dealing with a foot injury that kept him out of Pittsburgh’s Week 2 loss to the New England Patriots. He was limited in practice last Wednesday before missing Thursday and Friday and was ultimately ruled out for the game.
The veteran wide receiver’s
return to the practice field is significant for a Steelers offense that struggled to generate consistent production against New England. Pittman made an immediate impact in his Steelers debut against the Atlanta Falcons, catching all three of his targets for 58 yards in Pittsburgh’s 20-13 season-opening victory.
Pittsburgh acquired Pittman during the offseason with the expectation that he would provide a reliable complementary option alongside DK Metcalf. His ability to work underneath and on intermediate routes, while also making himself available when quarterback Aaron Rodgers is forced to improvise, gives the Steelers a different element in the passing game. Now, Pittman has a chance to begin working his way back toward game action.
