The Jays signed RHP Nic Enright to a two-year minor league contract. Generally minor league contracts are one-year but Enright will be rehabbing from Tommy John surgery most of the coming season.
Enright
turns 29 on January 8th. He’s thrown 31 MLB innings with a 2.03 ERA for the Guardians, all last season. He was drafted by Cleveland in the 20th round of the 2019 draft.
He throws mostly a four seamer and a slider with an occasional curve. The four seamer averaged 93.2 mph last year. We won’t see him this year, but maybe next year, and he has the team to help him through rehab this year.
Beyond that:
- The Cubs signed Hunter Harvery to a one-year contract, one-year, $6 million with incentives.
- The Giants signed Tyler Mahle for a one-year contract. He made 16 starts for the Rangers last year with a 2.18 ERA. He’s 31 and has been battling various injuries over the previous few seasons.
- The Angels have bought out the last year of Anthony Rendon’s contract. They will pay him the $38 million he’s owed over the next three to five years.
- Japanese players Tatsuya Imai and Kazuma Okamoto are nearing the end of their 45-day posting period. both of expected to sign with someone. The Jays have talked to Okamoto.
