A familiar face will be pulling the strings for the Carolina Panthers’ defense when they face the Seattle Seahawks in Week 17.
After the Panthers fired defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, in the wake of their 27-19 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night, they named former Seahawks defensive line coach Todd Wash as interim coordinator.
Wash coached Seattle’s defensive line from 2011-12, before leaving with Gus Bradley for the Jacksonville Jaguars to become their DL coach and run game coordinator
— and later being elevated to defensive coordinator.
The 58-year-old has been with the Panthers since 2023, and is a part of a brass heavy on Seahawks ties. In the front office, general manager Dan Morgan got his start as a scout under John Schneider. The coaching staff, meanwhile, is led by former Seahawks QB coach Dave Canales. Darrell Bevell is an associate head coach and long-time tight ends coach Pat McPherson serves that role under Canales after 13 years in Seattle.
In his second go-round as a defensive coordinator, Wash will be tasked with helping to turn around a defense currently 27th in points allowed and 23rd in yards allowed.
