The Seattle Seahawks could be doing some more shuffling soon, whether on the practice squad or the 53-man roster.
Tuesday’s NFL transactions revealed Seattle brought in running backs Evan Hull and Jalen
White for tryouts, as well as linebacker D.J. Johnson. The Seahawks do not practice until Wednesday afternoon, by which point we should have an idea as to whether or not any of these players will turn a tryout into a contract.
Hull was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts out of Northwestern in 2023, recording a carry for a yard and a catch for six yards in the season opener before he was put on injured reserve. He’s only appeared in two games and was most recently with the Pittsburgh Steelers. White hails from Georgia Southern and is an undrafted rookie signed by the Green Bay Packers. He was waived by Green Bay with an injury settlement and has been a free agent ever since.
Unless something is up with any of Kenneth Walker III, Zach Charbonnet, or George Holani, chances are the running back tryouts could be for the practice squad, which has veteran Myles Gaskin on there while Jacardia Wright is on injured reserve.
As for Johnson, the outside linebacker played three seasons for the Carolina Panthers after playing most of his collegiate seasons at Oregon. He started five games out of 31 regular season appearances, recording 677 defensive snaps to just 220 on special teams. Johnson totaled 62 tackles, four tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, a pair of passes defensed, and a fumble recovery. He was waived by Carolina just a week ago. Given the uneasy outside linebacker situation following Derick Hall’s injury, Seattle will be looking for pass rushing depth with the expectation that Hall will miss at least this Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
