Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce was forced to leave Sunday Night Football’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, as he reinjured his surgically repaired left ankle on a non-contact play.
Pierce gingerly limped to the sideline, without being able to put his body weight on his reinjured heel/ankle, and headed directly to the medical tent with the help of trainers before being eventually carted off the field.
He was initially listed as “questionable” to return (which a return to this game
never seemed realistic), but that designation was recently downgraded to “out.”
Obviously, Pierce’s injury is concerning for the Colts, as it’s the same ankle that caused him to miss all of the team’s offseason training activities, veteran minicamp, training camp, and preseason.
After inking a once historic 4-year, $114 million contract (with $84 million guaranteed) right before free agency, the thought was that Piece, after a breakout 2025 campaign, would take another step forward into becoming an even more complete, bona fide #1 wideout for Indianapolis going forward.
Instead, the Colts could be without one of their most explosive big play threats offensively for quite a while again.
