Lamine Yamal was called up to the Spain squad early on Friday and then promptly ruled out of their World Cup qualifiers after Barcelona confirmed he is still struggling with injury and will miss the next
2-3 weeks of action.
The Barcelona teenager’s current injury has caused plenty of tension already, with Hansi Flick criticising Spain for their treatment of the forward, while Luis de la Fuente has said he’s surprised by his comments.
Deco has tried to play down talk of tension between club and country but it seems there’s still some ill-feeling festering between the two sides.
A new report from Marca claims Spain have been left perplexed by Barcelona’s update confirming Yamal is out of action.
There was contact between Barcelona and Spain after the PSG game where the national team were told Yamal had finished the game “very fatigued and with discomfort.”
However, the report claims Barcelona also said they were still planning on Yamal playing against Sevilla which is why he was then called up by De la Fuente.
Barcelona’s decision to subsequently confirm Yamal was out of action seems to have left Spain baffled, as they feel there should have been some warning, and means tensions between club and country continue.
