On Spanish radio program Estadio Noche (Onda Cero), Julen Guerrero offered a sharp critique of Real Madrid’s fractured performances after another disappointing result. For Guerrero, the core problem is not tactical—it’s
the players’ mentality and lack of unity.
“As long as he doesn’t control all the egos, and the players don’t put themselves at the service of what the coach decides, it’s going to be difficult,” he said. Guerrero argued that the squad’s internal dynamics are preventing Xabi Alonso from executing his ideas.
The on-field product reflects that tension. “You see a team with a certain disorder. I think Xabi Alonso is a bit conditioned by everything that has happened. I don’t know if all the players are committed, and you see a lot of disorder that drives the players crazy. In the end, each one is fighting his own war.”
He also pointed to structural issues in midfield selection, noting that Arda Güler is being misinterpreted within the system: “Güler is a more offensive player; he is not a midfielder.”
Guerrero’s conclusion was blunt: “There is a lack of commitment from everyone; the players have to put themselves at the service of the team, and they are not doing it.”
