Will Horcoff and Charlie Tretheway were invited by USA Hockey for a summer showcase ahead of the roster decisions for the 2026 WJC tournament in December. Horcoff was on the team last year and likely will return to the event. Tretheway, a 2025 third round pick of the Penguins, will have to deal with significant competition from players drafted very highly recently in order to make the team.
Horcoff’s degree of participation is in question, if not extremely unlikely given that the forward revealed he went shoulder surgery in April. Horcoff’s quiet WJC tournament held around the holidays and second half of the 2025-26 season at Michigan is better put into context when he revealed the injury was suffered in December and one that he played through.
Horcoff is at the Penguins’ current summer drill sessions prospect development camp, but not on the ice as he rehabs the injury. He is expected to return to the University of Michigan for his sophomore season in 2026-27.
