Michigan’s spring game visitor list included a priority 2027 in-stater in Lundon Hampton.
The Grand Rapids (Mich.) Kenowa Hills athlete was offered by Michigan on his practice trip in March and returned on Saturday for the spring game. When he received word last month the Wolverines offered him, an elated feeling was the result.
“It was a good and a cool experience,” Hampton told Maize n Brew at Battle 7v7 Nationals. “I love everything that Michigan is about. From the facilities, (to) the coaches.”
The fact the program residing in Hampton’s home state is pushing has also brought out pride in the work done leading up to this point.
“It feels good, man,” Hampton said. “Dream school growing up. Always loved Michigan.”
On both trips, Hampton had the opportunity to see Jordan Marshall, Savion Hiter and other running backs on the depth chart be a focal point in Michigan’s offense under the new coaching staff.
“They’re great players,” Hampton said. “Definitely feel like I can look up to them and model my game after them a little bit.”
Running backs coach Tony Alford is the main recruiter for Hampton, who could also project as a linebacker or safety at the next level.
“Good guy,” Hampton said of Alford. “He’ll push his players, but at the end of the day, he still loves them and cares about them. I like that a lot. He says that I’m an explosive player. I can make guys miss in open space. I just gotta work on my pad-level a little bit.”
Hampton continues to get to know Kyle Whittingham personally, as the head coach’s on-field philosophy of physicality stands out for the junior.
“I love that, for sure,” Hampton said.
Michigan is battling Kentucky, Michigan State, Penn State, Kansas and others for Hampton. He has an official visit scheduled to Ann Arbor the weekend of June 5 and is eyeing a commitment prior to the start of his senior season.
“First, I would say opportunity and development,” Hampton said. “Second, I would say if it feels like home. Then, a coach who really cares about me and who I am as a person, and help me become the best person I can be.”
