We’re into the quarter final stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and with just five games to play (yes, we have already watched 99 games go by!), we’re close to finding out who the next world champion is.
Argentina are the defending champions and with Lionel Messi scoring freely, are looking quite unstoppable whatever the game situation they find themselves in. How much of that is their cakewalk of a schedule (Algeria, Austria, Jordan, Cape Verde, & Egypt don’t send shivers down anyone’s spine) we’ll
find out possibly in the semifinals, as they seem to have made a meal of beating teams they should have disposed of easily.
Switzerland beat Algeria and then sent Colombia packing on penalties, but remain a bit of an unknown quantity. Their side is full of solid players who are known throughout Europe without having a superstar like Norway who can give them that extra push when needed.
It’s difficult to see any other result here than Messi and Co. tangoing their way into the final four.
