After Germany’s 4-0 victory over Finland, many fans were impressed by the midfield play of youngsters Aleksandar Pavlović and Felix Nmecha.
When asked if he had landed on his starting duo for the double pivot, German national team head coach Julian Nagelsmann avoided giving a direct answer and, instead, focus on praising the group as a whole.
“Pavlo is very hard-working and covers a lot of ground, as does Felix. I was happy with both of them [against Finland]; they worked very well together. But we also
have Ange (Angelo Stiller), who had a very good season. We have Pascal (Groß), who’s a bit more attack-minded and also did well at Brighton. And then there’s Leon (Goretzka), who trained very well. We have many options,” Nagelsmann said in a statement released by the DFB (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
It might be tough for another midfielder to break into the starting lineup if the current twosome continue to play at the level that they showed vs. Finland. However, it was Finland and not France or Spain. Germany’s game against the United States this weekend should give a hint on what the head coach is thinking.
