The Las Vegas Raiders will see a familiar face Sunday when they visit the New York Jets and it won’t bring back good memories.
The Jets are quarterbacked by Geno Smith. The Raiders, of course, traded Smith and a seventh-round pick in 2026 for a sixth-round pick this year. The Raiders used that pick as part of a deal to move up 12 spots to draft running Mike Washington in the fourth round.
Las Vegas was going to release Smith before the Jets, who drafted him more than decade ago, came in with the trade
deal.
Smith’s one season with the Raiders was a disaster. Las Vegas gave Seattle a third-round pick for Smith last year to reunite him with former Seahawks’ head coach Pete Carroll. The 2025 season was brutal for both Smith and Carroll and they both were jettisoned after one season.
Smith threw 19 touchdowns and 17 interceptions for the 3-14 Raiders. To his credit, Smith, 36, has rebounded some for the Jets even though they are just 2-5.
Smith is completing 70 percent of his passes and has thrown just two interceptions with 10 touchdown passes. His interceptions have come in the past two games.
