Good morning Gang Green Nation!
It’s cutdown day. NFL teams have to get down to 53 players on their roster by 4 pm today. The New York Jets still have plenty of work to do as they are currently 22 players over the limit. While there are plenty of holes at the back end of the roster that could be filled with waiver claims, it remains to be seen what players will become available. In addition, the Jets rank 7th in waiver priority. The Titans, Browns, Giants, Patriots, Jaguars and Raiders all have higher
priority than the Jets, so if any of those teams want the same guys the Jets want, the Jets won’t get their guy(s) on waivers. If the Jets don’t expect their guys to be available through waivers, they have the option of trading for them before waivers are processed. In addition, any NFL veterans with four years of service do not pass through waivers if they are cut. Instead, such veterans are immediately unrestricted free agents and may sign with any team.
In any event, whatever the Jets roster looks like after 4 pm EST today will likely change a bit before the season starts. We’ll soon find out what Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey have in store.
