Chelsea made it four wins on the spin with Wednesday’s 5-1 romp against a rather poor Ajax Amsterdam, and now take on a rather surprising Sunderland side on Saturday to try to make it five in a row.
The
Black Cats barely made it out of the Championship last season, finishing fourth well off the pace of Leeds United and Burnley, but are doing much better than their fellow promoted sides and have nearly as many points (14) as those two combined (15). Only Arsenal have conceded fewer goals, three, than Sunderland’s six through the first eight games. They have had a relatively easy schedule, so we can make it a bit tougher on them.
Given the short turnaround from Wednesday, there’s unlikely to be any changes to the injury situation of the squad. Thankfully, many of the usual first-teamers got the day off in that game, while others, like Moisés Caicedo and Enzo Fernández only played about a half’s worth.
