As is customary before one of his company’s PPV events, today (Aug. 27) AEW and Ring of Honor owner Tony Khan held a media call for Sunday’s big All In show at London’s Wembley Stadium.
He opened by praising the success of AEW’s shows at Wembley, and elsewhere in the United Kingdom over the years, noting that it was important to him to keep his partners at ITV happy.
“The top three shows in AEW’s history have all come from Wembley Stadium. Also, we set the record at The O2. So, certainly four out of
the top five or six gates in AEW’s history have all been in London and by far top three shows in attendance and in gate will all be in London. We’re approaching already a six million dollar gate, and then some, for this show. So, it’s one of the biggest success stories in professional wrestling history, and it’s gonna be an amazing event…”
WrestleTix currently lists 43,000+ tickets distributed for All In.
Khan’s domestic media rights partners also got some love, as he said Sunday’s show will be “by far our biggest PPV on HBO Max.” Likely due to venue restrictions, the head sicko also said the show will run four hours — at most. That means 1-5 p.m. ET.
Regarding the roster, Khan booked the Trios Battle Royal on this call, noting that he’s still negotiating with that “Wild Card” team.
In other talent-related updates:
- Asked about Thekla, TK gave a similar answer to the one he offered about Britt Baker: praising the former AEW Women’s World champion and teasing a possible return any time, but also noting the time limit for All In.
- He also said the current AEW Women’s World champion Willow Nightingale is dealing with a legitimate hand injury that they’ve had to book around. That involved changing Dynamite’s plans, but shouldn’t effect her match with Mercedes Moné at All In because Nightingale is cleared to wrestle.
AEW’s head of creative also spoke about some non-injury-related booking decisions:
- Khan admitted that he’s wanted to do Kenny Omega vs. Will Ospreay for the World title for a while, and now was the time to do it. He said he’s both pushed for Omega to get in peak condition for it, and doing whatever he could “to absolutely accommodate” Kenny to ensure he could.
- While explaining why there’s not a Women’s Casino Gauntlet on the card this year, Khan again pointed to time constraints. He also reminded that AEW just had a Women’s Casino Gauntlet match last month, and hinted a third women’s match could be added to Sunday’s line-up…
