The Milwaukee Brewers have made their second trade of Deadline Day, as they’ve picked up reliever Antonio Senzatela from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for two prospects, left-handed pitcher Mark Manfredi and shortstop Juan Martinez.
Senzatela, 31, has been pitching for the Rockies since 2017. He had some success as a starter in his younger career, particularly in the 2020 season when
he had a 3.44 ERA in 12 starts, but he missed almost all of the 2023 and 2024 seasons with a series of injuries that culminated in Tommy John surgery. 2025 was a real struggle: he went 4-15 with a 6.65 ERA in 30 games, 23 of which were starts.
In 2026, the Rockies moved Senzatelta to the bullpen, which led to a lot of early success. From the beginning of the season through June 1st, he’d allowed just five earned runs in 34 2/3 innings, giving him a 1.30 ERA. It’s been more of a struggle since then: in his last 17 outings, Senzatela has allowed 16 earned runs in 17 2/3 innings and his season ERA is up over two runs. However, his FIP is nearly identical between those two chunks of the season; 3.30 before June 5 and 3.49 after.
Senzatela is in the last year of a five-year, $50.5 million contract signed in 2022, though the Brewers will hold a club option at $14 million for 2027.
Neither Manfredi nor Martinez is in the Brewers top 30 prospects via MLB Pipeline, and neither even appears on FanGraphs’ list of the top 53 Brewers prospects. Martinez, signed as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela, made his debut for the low-A Wilson Warbirds on the Fourth of July after performing quite well in the Arizona Complex League. Manfredi was a ninth-round pick in 2023 out of Dayton. He was promoted to Triple-A Nashville earlier this season, and has a 3.09 ERA there in 18 outings covering 23 1/3 innings.
