The Jacksonville Jaguars got the ball first to start the second half after closing out the first half with a last second field goal to extend their lead over the Denver Broncos. Perhaps Sean Payton should have deferred like most teams do these days when they win the coin toss.
A pitch to Bhayshul Tuten immediately gained 16 yards for the Jaguars to start their next drive and then fired a bullet to Parker Washington for another first down. That put Washington at 7 catches for 98 yards in the game.
From the Broncos 35-yard line, Tuten would rip off another 11 yards. That would be three straight plays of 10+ yards for the Jaguars to open up the second half.
The drive would end in a field goal after being aided by an ill-advised unnecessary roughness call on Alex Singleton. The defense was fortunate to come up with the goal line stop.
Jaguars 13, Broncos 3.
Needing a big drive, the Broncos were in danger of going three and out when Bo Nix found Jaylen Waddle open for a first down. Waddle then turned it upfield for another 10 yards. Then a double-reverse to Pat Bryant gained 15 yards into field goal range and that’s where the drive would stall out.
Wil Lutz would boot it through from 45-yards out.
Jaguars 13, Broncos 6.
It felt like momentum was on the Jacksonville’s side despite the trading of field goals. They had again gotten across midfield, but on a third and six the Trevor Lawrence pass to Parker Washington was short and Riley Moss came down with the interception at the Denver 35 yard line.
With the third quarter winding down, the Broncos offense had good field position and needing a touchdown to tie the game up. A big pass play by Nix to Nate Adkins got them near field goal range to close out the quarter.
