Tickets for the long-awaited heavyweight clash between English boxing legends Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua went on sale yesterday, but fight fans found out the hard way that it wasn’t easy to lock down a seat at the table.
On Friday morning, more than 500,000 boxing fans joined the online queue to try to purchase a ticket for the heavyweight superfight on Dec. 11 from inside Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. With about 80,000 tickets to sell this was going to put a lot of people out. Fans were
also forced to pay quite a bit of money as the highest priced tickets were going for $17,000 and the lowest nosebleed options right around $120.
When the dust settled it took just about an hour for all 80,000 tickets to sell out. Of course, this left hundreds of thousands of boxing fans in the online queue with nothing left to do but turn their computers off. Tickets have already been added to resale websites, but those usually tend to sell for more. This has angered many fans who were hoping to witness history first hand this December.
Check out some of the reaction below (via Wales Online):
“Good to see the rip off is in full flow.”
“This is so bad. My son absolutely loves boxing and loves the two of these boxers, this fight would of been a perfect memory for him and many other young people but the asking price for these tickets are too high it’s sad for young people to miss this opportunity especially in Wales.”
“What a rip off.”
“Money-making racket.”
“Complete shambles of a sale on Ticketmaster as usual. I got in the queue with 12,500 people in front of me. When I got to the front of the queue I tried 5 times to book my tickets and each time it kicked me out of the site. When I tried a 6th time it then put me back at the back of the queue with over 50 thousand people in front of me.”
“Tried to buy tickets for Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury, and they put me in a queue. Now I am behind over HALF A MILLION people just to get a chance to buy a ticket and watch the fight live. This better be the fight of the century!”
“Fury vs Joshua tickets.. 500,000 people ahead.. Oh hell no.”
