As of the writing of this post, running backs and linebackers were the only two positions that had yet to have an assistant coach confirmed. The latter position has now apparently been filled, as 247’s
Cincinnati insider Bearcat Journal reports that Cincy’s defensive coordinator Tyson Veidt will be joining Matt Campbell’s staff in Happy Valley to coach linebackers.
For Veidt, this is a reunion with Campbell, as he coached linebackers at Iowa State for eight years before departing for Cincy in January 2024 to become their defensive coordinator. During his time at Iowa State, the Cyclones led the Big 12 in scoring defense, total defense, opponent yards per play, opponent rushing and opponent yards per carry. His two seasons at Cincy saw the Bearcats defense allow fewer than 25 points per game, though the Bearcats finished 99th in total defense in 2025, which may gave fans some pause. However, Veidt’s sole focus at PSU will be coaching up the linebackers while D’Anton Lynn calls the plays on defense.
While you might naturally think that this news means Dan Connor is unlikely to stick around in Happy Valley, I’ve got some good news for you, as it is also being reported that Connor will be sticking around, per Dylan Dawson:
