What is the story about?

Michael Olise is the world’s best right winger.

And probably the world’s best footballer at the moment. An extremely heavy crown to wear, but Olise does it with style. There is no player who possesses the game-changing ability of Olise right this moment.

Elite dribbling? Check. 1v1 demon? Check. Long-range belters? Check. Absurd passing ability? Check.

Clutchness? Check. Check. Checkmate.

And that is precisely why Bayern Munich should do everything it takes to extend its best player. A player with 18

goal contributions in just 12 (!!!) games for club and country this season. Bayern Munich director of sport Max Eberl, who was instrumental in signing the player in the first place, certainly knows his value. Speaking to Sky about Olise’s future before the game (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Eberl confirmed, “We’ve clearly stated our wish. We would like to continue working with Michael for a long time, beyond 2029, ideally extending his contract. He’s a world-class player who still hasn’t reached his full potential yet.”

Okay, so far, so good.

“To be honest, there have been no talks at all yet.”

Okay, none of us saw this coming. Has the media been making up stories then? No talks yet between Bayern and Olise? The board seem to be very relaxed. Could this be because he is contracted through summer 2029, and they see no urgency or need to stress about the situation?

Eberl summarised the situation: “What’s being discussed around us hasn’t actually happened. Our intention is crystal clear. That’s what we want, but there’s another party involved [Olise and his camp].”

This hints at multiple extensive rounds of transfer talks, which is the norm for every big extension at Bayern Munich. The story has been the same for every top player that Bayern has convinced over the years: Ribéry, Müller, Lewandowski, Musiala, Davies, Upamecano… it is never easy with European powerhouses prowling to snag your top stars.

However, Bayern Munich is THE powerhouse of powerhouses. And historically, when the club has wanted a player to stay, it has had its way.
