The Pittsburgh Steelers already have a very full quarterback room. Aaron Rodgers and Mason Rudolph are the two veterans, while Will Howard and rookie Drew Allar are both projects who have yet to take an NFL snap. While the Steelers have four quarterbacks on their roster, a fifth is a possibility.
Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby is set to enter the Supplemental Draft, becoming the most high-profile player since Terrelle Pryor to do so. This comes off the back of Sorsby’s saga with the NCAA due
to gambling. Even after a Texas judge overturned the NCAA’s banning of the quarterback, Sorsby decided to declare for the Supplemental Draft. And according to one Steelers insider, Pittsburgh is at least considering the idea of adding Sorsby to its roster.
Speaking on The Yinziders, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic says that the Steelers are discussing the idea of Sorsby.
“It sounds like right now, the Steelers are currently doing their homework,” DeFabo said. “It sounds like [the gambling issue] at this point would not be a disqualifier for the Steelers.”
In 2025 at Cincinnati, Sorsby threw 27 touchdowns to just five interceptions. NFL Draft analyst Lance Zierlein grades him as being an average NFL starter.
“Sorsby is driven by a strong competitive nature and admirable level of energy on the field,” Zierlein writes. “His combination of size and athleticism is in line with what teams cover in today’s game. A gunslinger’s mentality allows for impressive deep throws to beat single coverage downfield but also leads to poor decision-making against high-safety looks. Sorsby doesn’t have elite arm strength, but he can throw with enough velocity and brings impressive arm talent to the field. He possess NFL QB1 talent, but climbing that hill and staying there will require him to become more consistent in getting through progressions and altering his game place once the coverage look changes post-snap.”
Should the Steelers take the leap to add Sorsby, it would leave two quarterbacks on the chopping block, more than likely.
