For all of the talk about how the San Francisco 49ers still need to win. And despite playing a quarterback who is projected to throw for 159 yards tonight, this will not be an easy game.
The Indianapolis Colts have several weapons at Philip Rivers’ disposal, and the best one is at running back. Jonathan Taylor is a big-play waiting to happen, so a 49ers defense that has missed 26 tackles combined in the previous two games will need to be on their A-game against the running back with the most broken
tackles in the NFL.
If the 49ers can hold the Colts to a respectable red zone percentage, the offense will have a chance to pull away. The matchup sets up well for Brock Purdy, even with Ricky Pearsall sidelined. Christian McCaffrey should chew up plenty of underneath yards, while George Kittle will be a nightmare for the Colts to stop between the numbers.
If the passing attack gets any contributions from Jauan Jennings, Jordan Watkins, Demarcus Robinson, and Kendrick Bourne, the offense will stay on schedule and be in a good spot all night. Their red zone execution has been excellent all season. Touchdowns, not field goals, will decide this game.
49ers 27, Colts 24.
