The Wisconsin Badgers were in search of one more wide receiver in the transfer portal, and they got one on Sunday night, as Oklahoma Sooners wideout Zion Kearney committed to the program.
Kearney, a sophomore in 2025, caught two passes for 31 yards this season while playing in just 27 snaps across five games. It was a disappointing season for the former four-star recruit, who had played in all 11 games as a true freshman for the Sooners, catching eight passes for 128 yards and a touchdown.
At 6’1,
205 pounds, Kearney was expected to be a contributor for the Sooners in 2025 in a receiver group that also included Deion Burks, Isaiah Sategna, Javonnie Gibson, and former Badger Keontez Lewis. But he didn’t see the field much, even with injuries in the room, and entered the portal afterwards.
Kearney had his best game for Oklahoma in their bowl game in 2024, catching two passes for 66 yards and a touchdown against Navy. He was a top-150 recruit coming out of high school, and also ran track, where he posted times of 10.89 in the 100-meter dash and 22.09 in the 200-meter.
Wisconsin has looked to add quite a bit in the transfer portal after losing six of its nine scholarship players at the position this offseason. They got some production with SE Louisiana transfer Jaylon Domingeaux, who caught 57 passes for 802 yards and 11 touchdowns at the FCS level this year. They also added Oklahoma State sophomore Shamar Rigby, who caught 25 passes for 351 yards and a touchdown this season, and Minnesota’s Malachi Coleman, who had five catches for 83 yards this year.
Those four additions will join returners Eugene Hilton, Chris Brooks Jr., and Tyrell Henry in the receiver room, with incoming freshmen Keeyshawn Tabuteau and Zion Legree also joining the mix.
That figures to be Wisconsin’s wide receiver room in 2025, which enters the spring with a lot of questions as to where the production will come from.
