Mask versus mask was the feature attraction for AAA Noche de Los Grandes (May 30, 2026) from Monterrey, Mexico. The rivalry between El Grande Americano (Ludwig Kaiser) and Original Grande Americano (Chad Gable) reached a fever pitch for the blow-off, and they delivered a bloody classic. The match was a roller coaster of action and emotion.
AAA treated this mask versus mask like an epic main event with full pomp and circumstance. Both men were ushered in with live performances from mariachi bands,
and the introductions had the big-fight feel.
Speaking of the introductions, Original Grande Americano grabbed a guitar to smash over the head of El Grande Americano. The match was underway with no disqualifications.
The intensity was hot-blooded. Both men ripped each other’s masks and punched with fury to open head wounds. Yes, there was blood in this WWE production. It wasn’t gushing red, but there was enough under the masks to sell the magnitude of the moment.
Given No DQ, shenanigans were aplenty. The match hit all the callbacks to the storyline. The masked Creed Brothers pulled OGA off a pin. Bravo and Rayo ran out to brawl. Bravo leaped from the upper deck for a flying crossbody onto the pile below.
Blind comedian Ojitos de Huevo got his revenge on OGA by hitting him with his walking stick. Pimpinela Escarlata also served payback by hitting OGA with a guitar in disguise as a masked mariachi.
The drama took an emotional turn when AAA interviewer (and romantic lover of El Grande Americano) Andrea Bazarte appeared in the front row. She was fired from her job per the mask versus mask contract stipulation from OGA, so she purchased a ticket to support EGA. Andrea was the spark El Grande Americano needed as he was being choked by a bull rope.
The match kicked into gear with wrestling for the finish. OGA damaged EGA’s legs with ankle locks. EGA sold the pain by collapsing when trying to run the ropes. In the end, El Grande Americano pushed through the pain to nail a running headbutt for victory. Listen to the crowd reaction to the pin.
In the WWE era of ownership, they respected the tradition of the mask versus mask reveal. Original Grande Americano brought his family into the ring. OGA has a message for the people. It was his quest to learn the art of lucha libre to beat all the great luchadores. In the process, he learned about the culture. It pains OGA to say that he could not overcome the Mexican spirit. OGA said that he will always be the Original, but now there is only one El Grande Americano. OGA removed his mask to reveal his face. JBL was shocked that it was Chad Gable. Gable handed his mask over to El Grande Americano. He exited with his family to a mariachi serenade. The crowd chanted, “Thank you, Gable.”
El Grande Americano celebrated with a kiss from Andrea as the band played, “Cielito Lindo.” Ay, ay, ay, ay! Canta y no llores.
The mask versus mask main event was fantastic entertainment from start to finish. It was a full emotional experience. I had a smile on my face the whole time. I can certainly understand if others had tears in their eyes. El Grande Americano and Original Grande Americano are definitely in the running for Match of the Year in all of professional wrestling.
