Dino Toppmöller, formerly of Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt, was reportedly sacked by RC Lens despite an impressive start to the season, which included beating Paris Saint-Germain in the Trophée des Champions. There’s nothing wrong with Toppmöller, but with someone close to him:
Huge upheaval surrounding Dino Toppmöller! Despite a strong start to the season—including an opening victory in the Champions League—the former Eintracht coach was let go on Monday evening at RC Lens. The reason: The Lens bosses informed him that they intended to fire his close confidant and assistant coach, Nelson Morgado. Morgado was seen as too much of a thorn in the side of some members of the management team. Toppmöller opposed this decision—and was immediately fired along with Morgado. @SkySportDE
In some ways, this sacking could be similar to that of Julian Nagelsmann’s at Bayern. Before Nagelsmann got canned, Bayern weren’t playing that badly. Heck, they even eliminated Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League with a 3-0 aggregate score. Ultimately, Lens couldn’t make it work so Dino and his guy, so both had to go if the reports are true.
