DAZN commentator Sergio Mora caught up with Fight Hype to talk about some recent boxing topics and prospective match ups. Mora briefly gives his take on an ordered title defense between Devin Haney vs Keyshawn Davis, the Boots vs Zayas result, and how he sees Boots matching up with rival Vergil Ortiz. Here’s some of what he had to say below.
Mora on a potential matchup between Devin Haney and Keyshawn Davis
“I love Keyshawn. I think he’s hard to beat. When he’s on point, no one can beat him. Devin Haney has a better resume. Devin Haney, every time I think that he’s going
to come up short, he surprises me. What he did with Brian Norman was incredible. I would have to edge out Haney because of that, because of the resume, because he keeps proving people wrong, because of that jab, because Davis is inconsistent. He can be red hot or he can be cold, but when he’s read hot, he’s pound for pound.”
On Boots’ win over Zayas
“I think that should make Boots one of the next stars of the future, for the next upcoming years. He packed the house, he’s going for the knockout, he’s vulnerable. Even though people say he gets hit too much, that’s what we want to see. We don’t want to see a one-sided defensive fight. This is a guy that always goes for the knockout and he happens to get hit. So, I think it was a great, great crowd. Xander is going to come back again, probably should’ve tried a little harder to get that stoppage when he had him hurt, but he’s in there with a special talent in Boots.”
On how he sees Boots matching up with Vergil Ortiz
“I keep going back and forth…Right now I’m going to go back to what I said, I’m going to go Boots. Vergil’s going to kill me for that but look, man, what I see with Boots is incredible. The way he handles pressure, rolls off shots, Vergil has been hit, has been controversially dropped, even though he doesn’t admit it — it’s close to 50/50 but I’m going to have to lean it slightly towards Jaron Ennis. But still, let’s make the fight happen.”
