With the NFL Draft finished up, most NFL rosters have more or less been settled. Of course there will be a few veteran signings between now and training camp (see Dante Fowler signing with the Seattle Seahawks), but for the most part rosters are set.
This is now the time of year where media and fans can take a holistic view of the league landscape and see where certain teams stand. One of the more interesting perspectives is the average age of each NFL team. Entering 2026, the Seattle Seahawks are
smack dab in the middle of the league, ranking 17th in terms of average team age.
Coming in at 17th, the Seahawks have an average team age of 26.08 years old. Seattle’s offense has an average age of 25.96, while the defense is 26.20. For context, the youngest roster in the NFL is the Miami Dolphins, who have an average age of 24.85, while the Washington Commanders are the oldest roster in the NFL with an average age of 26.79.
Another fun tidbit from this age report is that the Seahawks are the youngest NFC West team. The Arizona Cardinals rank 24th with an average age of 26.25. The Los Angeles Rams rank 26th with an average age of 26.35. And the San Francisco 49ers are the second oldest team in the NFL with an average age of 26.79.
The age of an NFL roster can be arbitrary depending on who you ask. However, a general thought is that younger rosters tend to hold up throughout the season better, which then leads to more success. Just last year, the Seahawks had one of the youngest rosters in the NFL. It is also notable that both the 49ers and Commanders (who rank 31st and 32nd in average age) both struggled with injuries all of 2025.
Will the Seahawks young roster help them repeat as Super Bowl Champions in 2026? Time will tell.
