The Denver Broncos have earned a reputation for being the comeback kings of the NFL after doing it in back-to-back weeks. They won so many of those types of games last season that most assumed they would be due for a reversion to the mean in 2026. So far, that hasn’t been the case. This team thrives off the high pressure, high stakes of a comeback.
The power rankings are a mixed bag because of that. They rose across the board, but some prognosticators only moved them slightly still doubting their
ability to keep up the comeback game. However, plenty do believe and the move was significant and into the Top 5 overall.
Frankly, I don’t know if they can keep this up. But I do know I’m enjoying the ride and enjoying the Bo Nix experience. It’s not quite like Tebow Time. It’s a lot more like John Elway with a hint of Tebow, because some of these comebacks are just too insane not to think of Tebow.
Here’s how the Broncos are doing in this week’s power rankings around the web:
CBS Sports – 6th
Coming back to win games late is their calling card. They did it again against the Rams Sunday night, but that’s playing with fire on a weekly basis.
NBC Sports – 4th
The Rams let the Broncos hang around just long enough to steal it.
ESPN – 6th
The Broncos’ offensive struggles, especially in first halves, have dragged down everybody’s numbers. They haven’t found a rhythm much of the time, and save for Jaylen Waddle’s 138-yard effort against the Jaguars in Week 2, the WRs have been caught up in the wash (Pat Bryant has the group’s only TD catch). Sutton, who is second in targets to Waddle with 16, could be seen as the biggest disappointment. He has yet to eclipse more than 10 fantasy points in any game.
New York Times – 4th
Bo Nix is 26-11 as Denver’s starter, which gives him eight more wins than any other member of the 2024 quarterbacks class. So Broncos fans aren’t interested in hearing about how he’s 30th in the league in EPA per dropback (minus-0.14) and 26th in touchdown-to-interception ratio (4-to-3). Denver scored as many points in the second half Sunday as it did in the first 10 quarters of the season combined, so maybe Nix and offensive coordinator Davis Webb are figuring each other out.
USA Today – 5th
They’ve been 10 points better on the scoreboard every week, meaning they’re on pace to score 40 at San Francisco on Sunday. Maybe. Yet for all the scrutiny that’s followed new OC Davis Webb, it’s the defense that’s really underachieved here so far. A team that averaged four sacks per game in 2025 is currently at 2.67.
Fox Sports – 3rd
They had a second half for the ages against the Rams, maybe with a little help from the officials. If they could just get QB Bo Nix and their offense going a little sooner, they’d be a scary team. But they certainly have the defense to play against anyone, and Sean Payton may be the best coach in the NFL when his team is playing from behind. They’ve already come from behind twice to win this year.
And yes, I know they were blitzed by the Chiefs in Week 1, and they are still ranked ahead of them. These are power rankings, not standings. Thanks for your continued concern.
