Many of the criticisms directed at Kevin Stefanski during his time as head coach of the Cleveland Browns centered on a perceived lack of leadership and an inability to hold everyone on the team accountable. He was originally brought to Cleveland in large part due to his offensive play-calling abilities. The Browns now have an opportunity to decide what type of head coach they would like to lead the team moving forward and what specific strengths they want that coach to have.

Many of the mistakes during the 2025 season, such as drops on offense and breakdowns on special teams, ultimately stemmed from a lack of discipline. When a culture of accountability is established, recurring issues like those begin to disappear. The team needs to eliminate these types of problems to build a winning culture and put itself in a position to win close games.
Hiring an offensive play caller as the next head coach comes with several major benefits. Right now, the Browns’ offense is the unit most responsible for limiting the team’s potential. The team needs a coach who can provide immediate stability on that side of the ball and maximize success regardless of who is under center.
Does Cleveland need more of a CEO-type coach or a play-caller?
