Season two of WWE’s latest take on a reality competition show, WWE LFG (for “Legends and Future Greats”), aired its final episode on A&E last night (Oct. 5). That meant it was time to crown the winners,
who in storyline are awarded contracts to appear on NXT television.
In reality, we know that everyone appearing on LFG is already has a WWE deal in one form or another. In fact, one of last night’s four finalists (Harlem Lewis) is currently in Japan with NXT’s Charlie Dempsey wrestling for Pro Wrestling NOAH, and another recently unveiled her WWE-owned name (Penina Tuilaepa, who will be working as PJ Vasa going forward).
Neither were selected as one of season two’s winners, either. WWE Developmental program head honcho Shawn Michaels chose Shiloh Hill as the men’s winner, and Dani Sekelsky as the women’s winner.
LFG’s gimmick is that the “Future Greats” are drafted and coached by the “Legends”, who are also competing against each other. Undertaker won those bragging rights in season one, and he went back-to-back in season two as both Hill and Sekelsky were members of Team Taker.
With their “new contracts” signed, the winners will debut on NXT soon. Season one men’s winner Jasper Troy was featured prominently when he arrived, working a program with then-NXT champ Oba Femi and the current holder of that title Ricky Saints. Women’s winner Tyra Mae Steele (Olympic gold medalist Tamyra Mensah-Stock) teamed with Tavion Heights for a mixed tag against Chelsea Green and Ethan Page in August at NXT’s Heatwave premium live event.
Congrats to the winners, and we’ll see how they fare on Tuesday nights.
