The Commanders have claimed running back Robert Henry Jr. off waivers, per the NFL transaction wire. The news is somewhat serendipitous, with Jeremy McNichols suffering a serious foot injury the day after Seattle let Henry go.
The undrafted rookie out of Texas-San Antonio was signed by the Commanders shortly after the NFL draft. He was a preseason star, with strong showings in several games. He was ultimately waived
and then placed on the practice squad. The Seattle Seahawks signed him to their active roster on Oct. 6 and waived him on Monday, before their clash with the Chicago Bears.
The Commanders also waived sixth-round rookie Kaytron Allen, who was claimed off waivers by the Dolphins and is playing well for them.
Henry is a slasher who can create explosive plays, while his ball security and pass protection remains a work in progress. He should see snaps, however, considering he’s on the active roster behind Austin Ekeler and Rachaad White.
