Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Seahawks fans and fans across the country.
It’s crazy to be talking about an important part of a Super Bowl champion being off the team completely just a short time later, but we might be at that point with Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold. The NFC Championship Game brilliance seems like a distant memory given the horror show to start the 2026 season. Seattle’s offensive
woes are not exclusively Darnold’s fault, but he certainly has a helping hand in this mess.
We aren’t running another poll on benching Darnold this season. Heck, if Drew Lock is going to remain sidelined with his elbow injury, then you can shelve any fantasy about giving Lock any run. But we’re absolutely at the point where barring an amazing second half of the season, Darnold’s future as Seahawks starter should be called into question. The franchise QB he looked like for about 10 weeks last year and the playoff run has regressed back to something close to the worst version of himself, and that volatility doesn’t sound like a recipe for a massive contract extension. Darnold’s contract is up in 2027, so he could play out the rest of his deal and have another “prove-it” moment, possibly with a different offensive coordinator (again). Alternatively, John Schneider pivots and starts looking for his next guy, whether that’s believing in Year 3 Jalen Milroe, re-signing Lock to essentially recreate the Darnold magic with someone else, trading for a quarterback, or drafting one.
So what say you? Is Sam the starting QB for Seattle next season? Vote in the surveys below! The confidence poll is the other question and I don’t need to explain that to regular Reacts participants.
Is Sam Darnold the QB of the future?
Are you confident in the Seahawks?
