As Liverpool prepare for their Champions League clash against Real Madrid, the injury situation appears to be largely unchanged from over the weekend for Arne Slot, as the manager looks set to have the recently returned Ryan Gravenberch available for selection but isn’t expecting anyone new to join him.
The closest to making a return is Alexander Isak, with the striker having been out of action since picking up a groin injury against Eintracht Frankfurt. The club’s other two key injured first team
players, goalkeeper Alisson Becker and right back Jeremie Frimpong, are expected out until at least after the international break.
“Jeremie and Alisson are both be unavailable for Sunday,” Slot said when asked about the injuries. “With Alex, let’s wait and see. He’s definitely not starting Sunday. Maybe he can be involved in the squad but for now he is not training with the team—and Sunday is not in my thinking for the lineup tomorrow.”
With Liverpool playing Madrid on Tuesday and City in the league then not until Sunday, it’s a relatively lengthy gap between matches for the Reds this week—and after a very difficult October, the hope will be to prove that Slot’s Reds have in fact gotten things back on track following Saturday’s win over Aston Villa.
“Every game we play is a test,” Slot added. “Real had a lot of injuries early this season and now they don’t. We are a different team, while City made a few changes likes us. So every game we play now is always going to be a test to see where we are. That was a week ago, two weeks ago, and now is the same this week.”
