While most combat sports fans will be tuning in for UFC Belgrade this Saturday—which takes place much earlier than a typical UFC Fight Night—there will be more action later in the day, as WWE’s annual SummerSlam event gets underway on ESPN Unlimited at 6 p.m. ET on both Saturday and Sunday.
WWE brings its biggest party of the summer to U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for two nights of action. SummerSlam’s loaded lineup is anchored by two world championship fights, with CM Punk defending
the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes on Saturday before Roman Reigns puts the World Heavyweight Championship on the line against longtime rival Seth Rollins on Sunday. The card also features two women’s title fights, an Interim WWE Women’s Championship Ladder Match and several other championship showdowns.
However, the biggest talking point may be Brock Lesnar’s Hell in a Cell rubber match against Oba Femi. Lesnar seemingly retired after losing to Femi at WrestleMania 42, leaving his gloves and boots in the ring before later returning and defeating “The Ruler” at Clash in Italy. With the trilogy fight taking place in Lesnar’s home state of Minnesota — where he became an NCAA Division I wrestling champion — SummerSlam could serve as the 49-year-old’s real retirement match and provide a fitting end to his legendary career. Of course, no official retirement announcement has been made, and Lesnar has fooled everyone before.
