Here’s a sentence I bet you haven’t heard this season: Harry Kane managed to find the scoresheet once again. Well, of course he did, and this time it was a beautifully headed goal from Joshua Kimmich’s
in-swinging corner kick to open the scoring for Bayern Munich against Borussia Dortmund.
Following Bayern’s 2-1 victory, Kane spoke through his goal and how pre-match planning resulted in the Englishman’s 12th goal of the Bundesliga season.
“We spoke before the game about them having a kind of weak zone in the front post area,” explained Kane (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Josh played a great corner, I put my body in and it worked. It’s something we worked on.”
Despite confirmation of Kane’s goal from referee, Bastian Dankert, and his VAR team, many Dortmund supporters were convinced Serhou Guirassy was impeded by the Englishman. However, Kane firmly disagreed.
“No, come on. This is a competitive sport. I just shielded the ball. If that’s a foul then I don’t know what to say.”
Kane has now scored in his last five Bundesliga outings. He is still a ways off Gerd Müller’s record of sixteen in the 1969/70 season, however, in the 32-year-old’s vein of form anything is possible.
Bayern Munich got off to a rousing start during its 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in the latest edition of Der Klassiker, but it was a nervy ending for the Bavarians.
The home side appeared to wear down and wilt under pressure from Borussia Dortmund as the game went on, but it was a gutty effort to even preserve the win under what many would consider to be a shaky second half. Head coach Vincent Kompany will have to find a way to deal with the weariness of his boys, but for now, let’s talk about how it all played out.
