On Tuesday the College Football Playoff committee released its latest set of rankings on ESPN, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish moved up one spot to #9.
Notre Dame’s climb into the top ten has been remarkable. There was a far distant mountain laid down in front of the Irish to make the college football playoff after the 0-2 start, but after conquering 7 hills in a row — the Irish have everything in front of them.
Notre Dame plays #22 Pitt this week, but then finishes the season against the bottom
rung of the ACC in Syracuse and Stanford. The bigger questions right now is if the Irish can move up just one more spot to host a playoff game in South Bend. With four more sets of rankings still to come, it’s easy enough to think if the Irish win out that they should be ranked at least #8, but college football is probably going to college football and we could still see some major shifts inside the top 12.
Despite Notre Dame’s rise in the rankimgs, their chances of winning the national championship dropped slightly from the fifth best odds to the sixth best odds according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
