Ferran Torres was the star of the show again for Barcelona on Sunday night, bagging a brace in a 3-0 win over Getafe at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.
The Shark now has four goals from five La Liga outings this season, is managing a goal every 91 minutes in the Spanish top flight and is the team’s top scorer.
Torres has therefore picked up from where he left off last season and is absolutely thriving under Hansi Flick.
The Spain star was tipped before the start of the season to rival Robert Lewandowski for a starting spot and made it clear after the match that he’s determined to make the most of the chances he gets.
“I already said I could be a starter at Barça. I always try to take advantage of opportunities,” he told DAZN.
“There will be many more goals to come. Now it’s time to keep working and continue consolidating my position as a striker. The good thing about me is that I’m growing, I’m maturing, and that’s the important thing.”
The question now is whether Torres deserves to be Barca’s starting striker ahead of Lewandowski? The veteran’s cause has not been helped by an injury in pre-season that means he’s had a slow start to the new campaign.
Lewandowski did bag a brace against Valencia, but those are the only goals he’s managed so far, and on current evidence it looks as though Torres may be the better option.
