Florida State and NC State, both teams sitting at .500 at this point of the season, face off tonight in Raleigh, N.C., in FSU’s final ACC matchup. The winning team will become eligible for a postseason bowl game, along with the additional 15 practice sessions given to bowl teams. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.
The Seminoles (5-5, 2-5) are expected to maintain their normal quick pace to keep NC State’s defense off balance, hoping to jump to a big enough
lead to force the Wolfpack into a passing first offense to catch up, and abandon their run-first game plan.
The Wolfpack (5-5, 2-4) will feature the ACC’s 2nd-ranked rusher, Hollywood Smothers, who is averaging 91.4 yards per game and ranks 20th in the nation, back at full speed for tonight’s game. He will be expected to pound the FSU defense repeatedly in an attempt to establish their running game and control the clock, stay in 3rd and manageable, and shorten the game. In other words, similar to what teams that have defeated the Seminoles this season have successfully done.
Next, let’s compare how the two teams rank in the NCAA by examining Florida State’s overall team rankings and statistics for both it’s offensive and defensive units.
Now, let’s compare the overall NCAA team rankings and statistics of NC State’s offensive and defensive units with those of FSU.
