Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
Instant Observations from Eagles 10 Packers 7: DeVonta Smith TD makes dominant defensive performance stand – PHLY Call me unrealistic. Tell me that
a win is a win. But, for the life of me, I do not understand why Nick Sirianni (and Kevin Patullo, maybe) love giving up on drives so much. Just quitting on them. This Eagles offense, which is on pace to have the most three-and-outs by any NFL offense in a decade, had three three-and-outs on their first six real drives. They dialed up Will Shipley coward’s draws on 3rd and long the entire game. It’s pathetic. So, when you see Saquon Barkley hit the circle button like it’s Madden and DeVonta Smith Moss a guy in the end zone, it’s great. But I find myself thinking, “Hey, these guys are on the field the entire game. It should not be this way!” But it is, and that is the story of the 2025 Philadelphia Eagles offense. But the Eagles defense was great tonight. Jaelan Phillips, welcome to Philadelphia. Also, Nick Sirianni, what are you doing at the end of the game my man?
Handing out 10 awards from the Eagles-Packers game – PhillyVoice
4) The ‘Give Up’ Award: Nick Sirianni. The Eagles faced a lot of 3rd and long situations, and Sirianni made conservative play calls on most of them, often choosing to hand the ball off instead of throwing it down the field. They also more or less ran give up plays at the end of the first half instead of aggressively trying to score more points. The Eagles employ a trio of contested catch beasts in Smith, A.J. Brown, and Dallas Goedert. Let them at least try to make a play.
Eagles-Packers winners, losers: Who stood out in 10-7 win at Lambeau? – NJ.com
Loser: Conservative decision-making. It’s difficult to know sometimes who’s responsible for situational play-calls: the offensive coordinator or the head coach, one with an offensive background no less. So let’s just blame both Kevin Patullo and Nick Sirianni for those give-up Will Shipley runs on third-and-long. Instead of being aggressive and trusting Jalen Hurts to connect with A.J. Brown or DeVonta Smith, the Eagles ran three coward’s draws: one on third-and-12, one on third-and-14 and another at the end of the first half for no reason whatsoever. They just gave up on drives early. The defense could be leaned on. But the Eagles are too talented to be that conservative.
Roob’s Observations as Eagles find a way to win at Lambeau Field – NBCSP
No clue what Nick Sirianni was thinking at the end of the game. You don’t go for it with 33 seconds left up three on the Packers’ 35-yard-line. You just don’t. Especially with a low-percentage deep ball into double coverage. If you’re really going to go for it on fourth down in this situation, at least make it a higher-percentage play, like Dallas Goedert or Saquon past the sticks. But that? Come on, Nick. You don’t give the Packers an opportunity to tie the game. You have Braden Mann punt the football inside the 10 and make life a lot more difficult for Jordan Love and the Packers. The difference between the 10 and the 35 is huge with half a minute left. As it turned out, Brandon McManus’s 64-yard field goal attempt as time ran out wasn’t close. But it never should have come down to that.
NFC Playoff Picture: Eagles control path to No. 1 seed with 8 games to play – BGN
The Philadelphia Eagles entered Week 10 as the top team in the NFC playoff picture and they remained in that spot by narrowly defeating the Green Bay Packers on Monday night. With eight games left to play, the Eagles control their path to getting a first-round bye. As it currently stands, they merely need to win all of their remaining games to clinch home field advantage in the 2026 NFL playoffs. Of course, winning out isn’t likely. But the Eagles do have some factors working in their favor in the event that they don’t go undefeated in the rest of the regular season.
The Eagles called out the Packers’ failed 4th down play – Acme Packing Company
The Eagles’ defensive linemen got off the ball very quickly, forcing Josh Jacobs to bounce the play backside, right into two linemen who were shedding their blocks, made by Jordan Morgan and Luke Musgrave, and a safety coming into the box as an extra fitter. Ultimately, success on that play wouldn’t have mattered for the Packers, because they also committed a pre-snap penalty on the run — an illegal formation because both Musgrave and receiver Dontayvion Wicks were on the ball on the same side of the field. So not only was Green Bay sloppy with their details on the got-to-have-it down, but they were also very predictable while doing it. This offense stinks.

What are the biggest concerns for the Eagles going forward?
Jaelan Phillips authors memorable debut in Eagles’ 10-7 win – ESPN
Outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips made a major impact in his Philadelphia Eagles debut, helping his new club to a 10-7 road win against the Green Bay Packers on Monday night. Phillips paced all Eagles edge players with 52 snaps and racked up 7 pressures, 6 tackles, 2 quarterback hits and a fumble recovery. His stuff on fourth-and-1 with 1:30 remaining led to a Josh Jacobs fumble that sealed the win. “This whole week, we’ve been telling him we trust him. When we get out there, we’re all as one,” Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter said. “He came out, showed out. He got the fumble, he got some pressures, and he had a hell of a game.” Phillips was acquired from the Miami Dolphins for a third-round pick last week ahead of the trade deadline. He called it “literally the greatest thing that has happened to me in my whole life, probably.” That feeling of gratitude stayed with him for his trip to Green Bay. “This is the first time in a while that I got a little emotional before a game. This stage — it’s my first time in Lambeau — and walking out of that tunnel, it doesn’t get better than that,” Phillips said. “I felt amazing energy from the guys. There is just an air of confidence, and everybody played together. We had a great game, obviously, super gritty.”
Eagles Hang On to Win, 10-7 – Iggles Blitz
The Eagles notched 3 sacks and 8 QB hits. They pressured Jordan Love on a regular basis and kept the Packers from getting into a good rhythm offensively. GB averaged just 4 yards per play. They were 1 of 3 on fourth downs. Jordan Love completed 70.8 percent of his throws coming into the game. He was just 20 for 36 against the Eagles.
Eagles-Packers on ‘Monday Night Football’: What We Learned from Philadelphia’s 10-7 win – NFL.com
Eagles defense shines in prime time. For likely many a viewer Monday night, this game wasn’t aesthetically pleasing, but it was nonetheless a defensive masterpiece for the Eagles. On every level, whether it be the newly acquired Jaelan Phillips, linebacker Nakobe Dean, cornerback Quinyon Mitchell and on and on, Philadelphia’s defense rarely gave quarter against the Packers, stifling Green Bay for the majority of a cool night at Lambeau Field before standing tall when it mattered most. It was Phillips and Reed Blankenship who stuffed Josh Jacobs for a 5-yard loss on fourth down, causing a fumble to end the Packers’ second-to-last drive. Then, the Eagles survived a stunning call to go for it on fourth-and-6 from the Packers’ 35-yard line that led to a last-ditch 64-yard Green Bay field goal attempt. A relatively middling defense by the numbers, Vic Fangio’s D (15th in points allowed, 20th in yards given up entering the week), as a collective, was the star of the night. The Packers were held to 261 yards and a season-low seven points in nine drives. Phillips (six tackles, two QB hits, tackle for loss, fumble recovery) was impressive in his Philly debut. Nolan Smith (sack, two QB hits) returned from injured reserve with a vengeance. Jalyx Hunt (sack, two tackles for loss) continues to contribute. There’s still plenty for the reigning Super Bowl champions to work on, but Monday’s defensive showing bodes very well for the weeks ahead.
Spadaro: 10 takeaways from a marvelous defensive performance in prime time – PE.com
Lane Johnson is beyond tough. He is superhuman. It sure didn’t look good when right tackle Lane Johnson, an All-Pro and future Pro Football Hall of Famer, had his left knee clipped in the first half and went down. Stayed there. Looked like he was in intense pain. Worry … worry … worry. But he came out and sat on the bench in the second half in full uniform and then played in the final portion of the fourth quarter, an incredible comeback. It was an amazing show of toughness once again and deserves to be applauded and appreciated.
Cowboys playoff picture: Dallas must reach 9 wins in all likelihood for chance – Blogging The Boys
Using the most optimistic take on those game, we can give the Cowboys wins against the Raiders, Commanders, and Giants. That would put the Cowboys at six wins total which means they would need three more. At season’s beginning, it was pretty popular to say that Dallas would split the season series with Philadelphia so let’s continue to reach and add that one. On the subject of splitting, the Cowboys may do so with the Vikings and Chargers which means they are going to have to take one between Kansas City and Detroit (under this specific hypothetical). Nine wins can come from any particular combination and ultimately may not even be enough, but it is the measurable goal right now.
Washington Commanders Injury Updates: Surgery for new WR; Another injury in the secondary – Hogs Haven
The Washington Commanders announced that four players didn’t travel with the team for their international game in Madrid, Spain. All four players are dealing with injuries. Dan Quinn told reporters this morning that WR Terry McLaurin would make the trip, even though he won’t be playing. He’s still recovering from the quad injury that he aggravated during his first game back three weeks ago. This will be his seventh game missed due to the injury this season. Quinn also said that QB Jayden Daniels wasn’t traveling with the team. He was on the sidelines at the Lions game on Sunday with a brace on his left elbow that he dislocated vs the Seahawks the previous week. Daniels and McLaurin will be evaluated after the team’s Week 12 bye.
Brian Daboll fired by New York Giants – Big Blue View
Mike Kafka is the giants’ sixth head coach since they removed Tom Coughlin after the 2015 season. They have gone through Ben McAdoo, Steve Spagnuolo (interim), Pat Shurmur, Joe Judge and now Daboll. Kafka, 38, has interviewed for NFL head-coaching jobs each offseason since joining the Giants. Last offseason, he was a finalist for the New Orleans Saints job that went to Kellen Moore. A former quarterback, Kafka was a 2010 fourth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles. He began his coaching career with Northwestern in 2016 and joined the staff of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2017. He was with the Chiefs until joining Daboll’s staff in 2022. The Giants will face the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
Jaxson Dart’s concussion concerns are already alarming – SB Nation
One of the things fans have come to love about Dart is the frenetic, reckless abandon with how he plays football. It’s a feature for the rookie QB, not a bug — and putting his body on the line has been part of the ethos of this team along with fellow injured rookie Cam Skatterbo. Over the span of seven starts the amount of contact Dart has taken is unprecedented. Dart has been sacked 21 times, taken 15 hits in the pocket, and been tackled 47 times on rushing attempts. This equates to 11.8 incidents of contact per game, far too many for a quarterback to be taking. Part of this is the offensive line, but a lot is simply Dart’s football DNA. This leaves the fundamental question in the hands of the Giants: Do they work to have their QB tone down his game for his longevity, potentially losing a little of that magic, or let him stay the course with the very understanding it might make Dart’s career a brief moment in time, rather than an era?
