After bringing the team back to .500 with its 92-69 win over the Washington Mystics, Dallas begins a three-game road trip that starts with playing the Chicago Sky on Wednesday. Tipoff is at 8 p.m. at Wintrust Arena.
Both Dallas and Chicago finished last season with a 10-34 record.
Dallas made changes to its roster with a number one overall selection and players signed in free agency, but Chicago completely changed its roster.
In the offseason, the Sky traded Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream for a first-round
pick in 2027 and 2028 along with a second-round pick swap in 2028. Chicago continued making trades by trading a 2028 first-round pick to the Washington Mystics for Jacy Sheldon and trading Ariel Atkins to the Los Angeles Sparks for Rickea Jackson. Chicago also released Hailey Van Lith.
Following all the trades, Chicago signed Skylar Diggins, Natasha Cloud, DiJonai Carrington and Azura Stevens in free agency. These moves have led to Chicago having a 3-1 record and outnumber the changes Dallas made in the offseason.
Dallas brought back Arike Ogunbowale while signing Jessica Shepard, Alanna Smith and Odyssey Sims.
Then, Dallas used its second straight number one overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft to select Azzi Fudd. Her start in the WNBA has created many comments because of her scoring the least amount of points in her WNBA debut and missing the second game with a knee injury due to an abundance of caution. Fudd returned for the third game, scoring eight points off the bench on 4-of-7 shooting from the field.
Fudd continued her improvement in the game against the Mystics.
“My goal was just to be aggressive when I got into the game and contribute any way I could. Watched what the starters were doing, and they were pushing pace, so I wanted to continue to do that,” Fudd said.
She finished the game with 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field and 0-for-1 from beyond the arc. She also recorded three assists with one steal in 25 minutes.
“I’m just reading what the defense and what the game gives me,” Fudd said. “I know I’m a good 3-point shooter, but I’m more than just that, so it’s been nice to read what’s in our offense, how the defense is playing, and I have incredible teammates that get me open.”
During the game, Fudd was part of a lineup that featured her, Paige Bueckers, Maddy Siegrist and Shepard.
“That was a really good lineup,” Jose Fernandez said. “I think everybody was excited to see Azzi and how well she played — how she shot it, how she defended and how she created off the bounce. Im glad that now we can continue to increase her minutes. She felt good, and it was great to see the comfort level she had.”
