Chris Eubank Jr, 36, may be coming off a dreadful performance against Conor Benn in what was a sequel of their grudge match, but he’s not looking to hang up the gloves just yet. Eubank’s promoter Ben Shalom
of Boxxer confirms to ESPN that Eubank wants to carry on his career and is looking for a return by the middle of 2026.
Shalom would explain that anybody who watched Eubank’s latest outing would easily recognize that he wasn’t himself inside the ring — which most attribute to a difficulty making 160 lbs on top of a contractual rehydration clause — but will look to come back in better form. Eubank would intimate in post-fight interview that he was dealing with some issues leading into the fight but didn’t care to elaborate on exactly what that meant.
“He probably threw 30% of the punches. Everyone can speculate what that reason is. Christ knows what it is, we know what it is. He’ll have to deal with that in due course, but he was half the man he could have been. He does [want to continue] but he has to be fit and healthy first.”
With Eubank and Benn officially knotted up at 1-1 between them, an eventual third fight would seem like a likely option in the future even if Benn has said their saga has concluded. Shalom himself also believes a rubber match between the two could in fact take place so long as Eubank is healthy and there’s no more rehydration clauses.
For now Benn will be looking to make a return to welterweight which means Eubank will have to look elsewhere for his next fight. Shalom believes there are plenty of options in play but he’s going to allow Eubank some time to get his affairs in order.
