Former England international Danny Mills believes Harry Kane deserves serious consideration in the Ballon d’Or conversation after another phenomenal year for club and country.
“Looking at the Ballon d’Or, Harry Kane has probably been the most consistent player in football so far this year. He’s been phenomenal, but I don’t think there’s been one particularly shining light; it undoubtedly depends on who is voting. I’m sure even though the final didn’t go to plan, Lionel Messi will get a few votes,”
Mills told talkSPORT Bet slots site. “Had Argentina won it, he probably would have won, right or wrong. It’s really difficult because I don’t think there’s been one amazing, standout player at both club and international level throughout the last year. It’s probably the most open it’s been for some time.”
Kane’s consistency has certainly made him one of the most compelling candidates. His goalscoring numbers, performances for Bayern Munich and contributions on the international stage have kept him among the world’s elite throughout the year.
Mills also highlights what makes this year’s Ballon d’Or race so fascinating: there does not appear to be one obvious runaway candidate who has dominated at both club and international level.
For Kane, that could create a genuine opportunity. After making the move to Bayern Munich, the England captain has continued to produce at an extraordinary level, strengthening his case as one of the best players in world football.
