Thank you all for responding to this week’s SB Nation Reacts survey. As you know, this week’s survey focused on the Washington Mystics and what the future holds for them in the 2026 WNBA season.
We had two questions. First, do you believe that the team should make a push for the playoffs this season, or … do what the Washington Wizards are doing right now? Sixty six percent of you said that Washington should push for the playoffs. This tracks considering that the Mystics have a lot of cap room in free
agency, but there isn’t much buzz about players negotiating with the Mystics.
With our second question, we asked how you feel about Monumental Basketball President Michael Winger parting ways with Mystics General Manager Jamila Wideman. Sixty-seven percent of you believe that that was a problem. The timing of this couldn’t have been worse. Sure, Head Coach Sydney Johnson may have more of a say on these matters. But Winger is still the ultimate basketball operations player.
In an offseason where there will be a major realignment of which teams are the next contenders and which ones aren’t, I find it hard to see that the Mystics are in the conversation to contend. That’s in part because Winger has taken a “long road” rebuilding approach with the Wizards, but also in part because this front office move happened at a critical time.
