Bayern Munich’s “B” squad dominated an inconsistent Bayer Leverkusen squad that is far removed from the 2023/24 undefeated team. Serge Gnabry and Nicolas Jackson both scored in the first half and Bayern forced
an own goal to coast through the second half with a 3-0 lead.
Vincent Kompany’s decision to rest his key players showed a fresh confidence in Bayern’s depth and shifted the team’s focus to Tuesday’s looming road match against defending Champions League winners, Paris-Saint Germain.
After playing the full match against Leverkusen, Joshua Kimmich reflected on the team’s status as the best team in Europe.
“We are on a very good path,” said Kimmich (via @SkySportDE). “Football-wise and also as a team. This combination is what it takes to win titles. The first half of the season is there to position ourselves. We’re doing that very well right now. But we also know that no titles are awarded in November…Paris is also not doing too badly right now. Arsenal is really on form. Real seems to win almost every game, except against Atlético. There are a few teams that are doing very well at the moment.”
Injuries, weather, and luck of the draw will all play a major part in this season’s treble quest. The locker room experience of players like Kimmich will steady the ship throughout the lengthy season.
