“It wasn’t a shutout!” thousands of Cleveland fans cheered with joy. The Cleveland Guardians said “Enough is enough. Tonight, we score a run!”
Steven Kwan returned to form with a lead off single, C.J. Kayfus drew a walk and José Ramírez popped out for two on and one out. Kyle Manzardo singled on a grounder, scoring Kwan from second. David Fry drew a walk of his own to load things up for Bo
Naylor. Bo just missed a grand slam with a sac fly to the out field, but that didn’t stop Kayfus from scoring. Brayan Rocchio tacked on another RBI with a single to right, putting the Guards up 3-0 to start the game.
Kyle Manzardo made a diving catch to end the fourth inning that was absolutely beautiful.
On the other side of the ball, Parker Messick continued his absolute dominance as a starting pitcher. Messick, in his second start as a major league pitcher, went 7.0 innings of shutout baseball. Messick only allowed four baserunners, all via hits, and struck out six. Hunter Gaddis pitched the eighth inning, striking out one and looking like his dominant self. Cade Smith came on in the ninth to close it out. The first batter faced was retired on a confirmed play at first. Brayan Rocchio sniped the runner for the first out. Junior Caminero popped out to Rocchio for out number two. Cade Smith struck out Brandon Lowe for the final out, earning Parker Messick his first major league win.
Tomorrow’s rubber match has Slade Cecconi with the start at 1:10PM.
