Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny has been asked about Robert Lewandowski’s future at the club as he heads towards the end of his contract.
The Poland international couldn’t resist a joke at his compatriot’s expense and then shared what he thinks is going on currently in the striker’s mind.
“First of all, I’m not whispering in his ear. Secondly, if I were to whisper to him based on my own experience, I’d tell him to retire, because that’s when the best things can happen. You never know who’s going
to come calling in October… ” he joked to TVP Sport.
“We don’t talk about it. My suspicion is that Robert doesn’t know yet. But that’s not information, it’s my suspicion.”
Szczesny also addressed his own future and seemed to confim he plans to see out his contract which still has another year left to run.
“Yes. I’m old enough to understand that every year there may be speculation about whether I can still play, whether I still want to play. I still want to play, and I still can play, so I think we’ll talk a few more times before El Clásico,” he added.
There’s been speculation this week that Szczesny has turned down an offer from another La Liga club in order to continue at Barcelona.
