Bayern Munich Frauen picked up another win with a 4-1 victory over SC Freiburg. Bayern have now officially gone 45 games without defeat in the Bundesliga, a new league record
The German record champions were coming off the back of three straight wins in all competitions, and were not about to stop today. In the 18th minute, Momoko Tanikawa scored a candidate for Goal of the Season when she saw the keeper off her line, and unleashed a long range shot from the halfway line that sailed into the net.
Vanessa Gilles then added a second goal by finishing a Klara Bühl free kick. It was her second goal in as many games.
Bayern momentarily lost a bit of control after the restart and let Freiburg pull one back through German youth international Luca-Emily Birkholz in the 64th minute. However, they immediately regrouped and regained their two-goal advantage 12 minutes later. Lena Oberdorf registered her first assist of the season with a pinpoint through ball to Bühl, who rounded the keeper and finished.
There was still time for Tanikawa to get her second of the afternoon after receiving a pass from Bühl and driving the ball into the bottom corner from just outside the box. Bühl thus got her second assist of the game in stoppage time.
There was also more reason to celebrate as Sophie Proost got her first competitive start for Bayern, while Sarah Zadrazil made her long awaited return from her ACL injury, which also happened against Freiburg of all teams.
The result brings Bayern joint-top of the Bundesliga, just behind VfL Wolfsburg on goals scored. Bayern’s next game is another Monday game, when they visit Bayer Leverkusen next week.
