Germany were one of the football greats for as long as most can remember. Up until 2018, there was serious fear in playing the German national team, known for being a tournament team that showed up on the big occasions and were nearly impossible to beat. For the past eight years though, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side crashed out in unceremonious fashion after falling short to Paraguay in the Round of 32, and have now failed to reach the Round of 16 in three consecutive
World Cups. As a result, the Germans have now dropped out of the top 10 of the FIFA World Ranking, and now sit in 12th.
As embarassing as this is, many will just shrug this off as a hurt to some pride and forget about it. However, this is not so easy to shrug off when you remember there are legitimate impacts from the World Ranking. This ranking decides seeding for future tournaments and could result in Germany being a Pot 2 team next time around.
While the team has plenty of time to prove itself with the upcoming UEFA Nations League, Germany will want to fix this situation as soon as possible or could risk matching up with an opponent such as France in the group stage in the coming tournaments.
